Each enrolled unit may receive up to $10,000 in Lead Hazard Reduction funding.

Lead Safe Utica addresses lead hazards in privately owned housing using funds awarded to the city of Utica by HUD. This program aims to prevent childhood lead poisoning by creating lead-safe housing and helps homeowners, landlords, and tenants control hazards from lead in paint, soil and dust.

The Lead Safe Program is open to

  • Owner occupied housing (single & multi family)
  • Rental housing

This program is offered at no cost, however, participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Live in or own property within the city of Utica, built prior to 1978
  • Have a child under 6 years old, or a pregnant woman living in the home, or a child under 6 who spends significant time in the home
  • Qualify as a low income household
